Jennifer Stephen comes from Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, where she began playing the tuba at the age of fifteen. She holds degrees in Tuba Performance from Memorial University of Newfoundland, and Bowling Green State University, and also attended Glenn Gould School. Jennifer enjoys exploring the solo possibilities of the tuba, and has been a quarter finalist in CBC Competition for Young Performers, and placed second in the International Women’s Brass Conference solo tuba competition. Jennifer currently resides in Toronto where she maintains a busy freelance and teaching career. Her principal teachers have included Velvet Brown and Roger Bobo. As an active orchestral and chamber musician, Jennifer can be seen performing with groups such as the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, The National Arts Centre Orchestra, The National Ballet Orchestra, The Hannaford Street Silver Band, Esprit Orchestra and the Hamilton Philharmonic, among others. She is a founding member of the Toronto Brass Quintet and is on faculty at the National Music Camp of Canada and the Royal Conservatory of Music.
